Roadtrip to Bukidnon
Our first day started on our roadtrip to Bukidnon. We left the airport at 6am and arrived in Bukidnon's Del Monte pineapple farm around 7:30am. If you're going to commute, I guess it will take you about 2hrs of travel, but because we avail Kuya Boyet's service (check part 1 of this blog for his car service information - http://adventurousfeet.blogspot.com/2010/11/part1-bukidnon-cdo-iligan-camiguin-trip.html ) we reached it much faster.
on our way to bukidnon |
Our Bukidnon trip will only be half of the day, the other half would be consumed by our white water rafting in Cagayan De Oro City. Our first plan is to try ultralight flying plane gecko then on to Dahilayan for zipline adventures. But the question is, did our plans succeed?
Del Monte Pineapple Farm
I am so proud to know that Del Monte's pineapple farm in Bukidnon, is the largest pineapple farm in the whole world. With thousand of hectares of land , it occupies a large percentage of Bukidnon, ("bukid" means mountain in Mindanao). The actual design of farm is created manually by farmers long time ago. Yes, everything is made by hands.
Upon reaching the runway at the heart of pineapple farm, there are few persons currently in queue for the adventure so we just enjoyed taking pictures around.
The Flying ExperienceOne of the best experience i had is actually here in Bukidnon! When i first saw this in the net, I asked myself, can I really survived this adventure?!
A low powered ultralight plane or what they called Flying Gecko will let you fly up into the air for 15minutes. It is owned by Carl Frias, a Filipino retired from the U.S., bought this plane, lived here in Bukidnon, and flew it as a hobby. The story was, he is flying, and everybody wants to fly too, people will pay for the gas, and he doesn't mind flying with other people, so why not? He started sharing the experience to some friends and relatives, and luckily, it was opened to public just last year. It is becoming famous nowadays, so he's planning to buy a new one.
Mr. Carl Frias - the pilot
Kuya Jun - Sir Carl's assistance

What's up in the air?
You'll see the whole Del Monte pineapple farm, the falls and a lot more! Check the video too! The plane can only take one passenger at a time.

What happened next? We finished the adventure around 10:30am and Dahilayan will take us 30minutes more to reach it so we decided to skip it. We missed the longest zipline in the Philippines, nevertheless, I believe this adventure beats it all in the air. :)
TIP: If you're not coming from the airport, go to Bukidnon as early as 6am, flyin gecko starts at 6am so if you're the first one to do it, you still got time for Dahilayan zipline adventure. :)Next: Our roadtrip back to CDO for our White Water Rafting!

i love that this is so out of the way. bookmarked this entry,, i wanna fly too! never knew this existed up until i read your blog! good job and happy travels to you!
gosh, i wanna do this as well! so affordable. thanks for sharing!
Sir, Del Monte is not just 42 hectares...it's thousands of hectares...It stretches 13 Municipalities in Bukidnon...It covers around 20,000 hectares in the entire province....and it is growing because they are renting more lands...
Another correction Sir, Bukidnon means "Mountain People"...It is a name of a tribe in the Province...In Mindanao, BUKID means Mountain. It is not a tagalog term which means Farm...
I hope you can invite your friends to visit here again....Thanks:)
Thanks bamboo88 i'll correct it at once!
yes, hopefully I can visit Bukidnon again, to explore its beauty! :)
